The QuickVue RSV Test is a convenient, on-site dipstick immunoassay that offers a qualitative detection of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in 15 minutes or less. RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in children under the age of one in the U.S. The RSV infection begins in the upper respiratory epithelium, quickly progressing downward and causing inflammation, fluid collection, and obstruction in the bronchioles and alveoli, leading to serious respiratory distress. Each year, over 75,000 children are hospitalized due to complications from RSV infection. RSV testing can be a valuable diagnostic tool, allowing parents and doctors to begin supportive care at earlier stages, lessening the severity of the illness and potential for life-threatening complications.
