Updated CLIA Guidelines for New Applicants

Have you applied for a CLIA license recently?  If so, we have some great news for you!

CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) updated their guidance regarding CLIA Certificates of Waiver.

As noted in the bolded section below, it changes the requirement for Healthcare Providers allowing them to begin testing patients upon SUBMISSION of their CLIA waivered application and not upon APPROVAL from the CLIA office.

Facilities that have applied for a CLIA CoW to perform SARS-CoV-2 POC testing may begin testing and reporting patient results as soon as they have submitted their application to their State Agency (SA) and meet all applicable State licensure requirements.

This update significantly reduces the time a Provider must wait before testing their patients; the new guidance is critical in supporting new Provider customers that currently do not have CLIA waived certification.
