July 8, 2025

On July 7, 2025, President Trump issued an executive order extending the pause in the implementation of reciprocal tariffs until August 1, 2025.

Updates To Reciprocal Tariffs

These reciprocal tariffs were initially announced on April 2, 2025, under the authority of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). They have since been challenged in court but remain in effect while the cases are appealed.

New Tariffs Announced In Letters To 14 Nations

The President also sent tariff notice letters to 14 nations, with additional letters expected as negotiations continue. The letters announce new reciprocal tariff rates that would be imposed on August 1 if trade deals are not reached by that date.

New Tariff Rates For Key Nations In Medical Supply Chain

Among nations of interest to the medical supply chain that have received letters, the new reciprocal tariff rates are:

  • Malaysia: 25%
  • Thailand: 36%
  • Japan: 25%
  • South Korea: 25%
  • Vietnam: 20% (according to a deal announced July 3)

These rates are intended to replace both the rates announced on April 2 and the “universal” 10% tariff rate set when the pause was announced.
